3 Steps to Becoming a Foster Parent
Becoming a foster parent with Bair is a three-step process.
Serving Christ Through Foster Care
Becoming a foster parent is a big decision that will no doubt come with questions. We encourage everyone prayerfully considering this journey to get as much information as possible.
Once you are ready to open your heart and home to a child in need, we’re so excited to help you throughout the journey!
The process
Becoming a foster parent with Bair is generally a three-step process.
Step 1: Attending an Information Meeting
Your education as a foster parent begins at our information meetings. Think of these meetings as “Foster Parent University.” You will have an opportunity to meet and interact with our staff and current foster parents. Our team will go over the certification process but feel free to ask questions.
It is our hope that you leave armed with the right information and a clearer, more realistic picture of what you can expect as a foster parent.
Step 2: The Home Study
After completing an information night, you will be assigned a Home Study date. The Home Study process includes interviews, a thorough investigation of your background, an inspection of your home and the completion of all required paperwork including a fire escape plan and emergency contacts. (The Home Study list varies by state.)
You will also be enrolled in additional classes to further prepare you for your new role as a foster parent, including First Aid & CPR.
Step 3: Support and Ongoing Training
The Bair Foundation is dedicated to supporting our foster parents, no matter where they are at in their journey. As you start your journey, we will be right beside you, making sure that you have the tools, prayer, and support necessary to be successful in this mission.
Training does not end once you are certified. Ongoing training is required to maintain your licensure, and we provide foster parent classes throughout the year.

It is important to note that the process and requirements to become a foster parent vary by state, however there are a few general requirements:
